Tip settings.
Everything behind your tip page: the payment connections, your branding, the amounts, and how tips turn into on-stream alerts.
Payments
Offer PayPal, Stripe, or both. Each is turned on independently, and a method only appears on your tip page once it is switched on and finished connecting.
- PayPal: add the PayPal email that should receive tips.
- Stripe (includes credit/debit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay and more depending on your country): connect once, and those tips go straight to your own Stripe account.
If both are live, you choose which one viewers see first. Set your currency (USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD or JPY), a minimum and optional maximum tip, a suggested amount, and how long a tip message can be.
Connecting Stripe
Connecting Stripe takes you to Stripe to set up and verify your account. A few things worth knowing:
- You set up and verify directly with Stripe. OverlayThing never sees or handles your ID, bank or tax details.
- OverlayThing takes no percentage of your tips. Any processing fees are charged and set by Stripe.
- Stripe may take a little time to verify you before it releases payouts. Tips can start coming in right away while that finishes, with nothing needed from you.
- To pause without losing your account, switch Stripe off. Disconnect fully removes the account, so reconnecting means setting it up again.
What your tippers see
Two parts of a Stripe payment are public, and we fill both in for you so neither has to be personal:
- Your channel name as the card statement descriptor, so tippers recognise the charge on their statement.
- Our support line as the phone number on the receipts Stripe emails, so your own number stays private.
Both stay editable, and the panel flags it if either drifts back to something personal.
If you ever have trouble getting verified, accepting tips through Stripe, or withdrawing a balance, that is handled by Stripe directly. We can help with anything on the OverlayThing side, like your tip page, alerts and overlays.
Presets and branding
- Preset amounts: up to five quick-pick buttons, for example 5, 10 and 25. You can feature one preset with a bit of motion and color to draw the eye.
- Banner, avatar and accent color: make the page yours.
- Layout and type style: pick the overall look.
- Leaderboard: show or hide your top tippers.
Tip alerts
A confirmed tip fires your Tip alert on the overlay. Style that alert in the alert designer, and use variations if you want larger tips to look different or only show an alert above a certain amount.
PayPal and Stripe notify us when a payment clears, and only then is the tip marked confirmed and the alert fired. A viewer who starts but does not complete a payment will not trigger anything.
